A Year, Not Flying

Lily Tap Out
They say time flies, and I know that's often true.  It is, however, not true for all parts of that same year, or however much time you're specifically measuring.  In some ways the past year has seemingly passed quite quickly, while a big chunk of it, a heart chunk, has gone by agonizingly slowly.

Our beloved Lily died one year ago today.

There is little I can say.  Not a single day has passed that I have not thought of her often.  Very often, actually, and most of the time when I do, I still have to force my thoughts away because I will end up crying.  Yes, I miss her that much, even with the rock steady adoration of Goblin and the goofy love of Ghost.  Lily will always be a part of my heart, and that part is mixed with her ashes in her little Memorial Garden in the back yard.  When I went out there to talk to her this afternoon, I noted that there are blooms on the choya, and the other three cacti have blooms coming (we recently added a rather fragile new one).

So, a few Lily Memories:

In the lefthand picture, Lily, was a young lady (about 16 months old) on a playdate with 8 month old Zeke the Wolfhound (pictured elsewhere in the Gallery, link below). It was early spring in Arizona. Look how beautiful and healthy she was.

In the righthand picture, Miss Chunky started out sitting on the couch, then simply let herself fall sideways. Goblin tried to squirm out, only to find Lily wiggling her way up and next to his chest. She immediately went sound asleep, and he just gave up and did the same.

Both photos will click out larger if you like.  For those who haven't seen, here's the full Lily Gallery.

Sleep tight, Lily.  We still miss you.

Oh Von, honey. I'm so sorry about Lily. She was absolutely beautiful. And I totally know what you mean about missing them forever. We lost all three of our elderly dog girls within ten months of each other. You can see them at http://www.psychenoir.com/cemetery.html. Needless to say, it was brutal, and I still miss them every day. But we do have two new and wonderful canine buddies, Crystal and Jack:

They are both awesome critters, and I love them like crazy, but you're right, no dog ever replaces another. Anyway. I wish I were there to give you a hug.

Your sister in dogdom,

Lorelei

Thanks, Lorelei. It was so hard losing Lily-- Jesus, I can't imagine losing three of them in so short a time. Your pups were beautiful.

Hey Yvonne
I entirely understand this. There are just some pets that you connect with on a level that is very deep.
I still miss Patty. She was my little baby and I will always miss her.
Lily will stay with you in your heart. That's not a bad thing either.

Lorelie: That had to be really tough. To lose three dogs in a short period of time would just tear me up. My heart goes out to you.

Take Care
Bob
PS: Willy-boy is doing good. His nickname is now Big Skull because he likes to head-butt me when we wrestle. That boy is rough. And his skull is thick. I got the bruises to prove it.

Like the Big Skull name more. That's cool. :)

I'm so sorry. I know that pets are a part of the family and how much it hurts. :(

My cats wish they could have met her. The picture are wonderful. She looks very happy and content. You cared for her and loved her very well and she knew that.

As far as I know, Lily met only one cat, my dad's Sugar (RIP, sadly, about 6 weeks ago). She was quite interested in Sugar, so much so that while Sugar huddled in the center of the queen-sized bed and yowled (Lily couldn't hear her), Lily simply stood as close to the edge as she could and stared. My guess is that she wouldn't have chased. The one time she ended up with something tiny and squirmy around her feet (in PetSmart, when an itty-bitty puppy charged up to her), her body froze while her head (and those wonderfully silly ears) tried haphazardly to follow the thing around as it ran beneath her. But she would NOT move her feet-- I think she was afraid of squishing it.

I love the very earthy photo of you and Lily on her playdate. You did so much for her, Von. You really changed her life. I hope you take some comfort in that.

Lots and lots of ((hugs)).
